December 17
“OUCH!” I screamed, as my dad brushed through my tangled locks. It was a Saturday afternoon; Mom was teaching Dad how to put my hair in a ponytail for school. From now on Dad would be getting me ready for school. Mom changed her work hours to be home earlier in the afternoons. She wanted to spend more time with my brother and me.
I’m pretty sure my Mom has super powers. How she managed to raise two children, work full time and manage a home is beyond me. She remembered every ‘school thing,’ packed two lunches every day, made sure we always had clean clothes and dinner on the table every night. All of this while managing a full time job. How did she make it look like such a breeze?
Here are a few ways Mom managed to find balance:
Tina Fey sums it up perfectly: “I think every working mom probably feels the same thing which is you go through big chunks of time where you’re just going ‘this is impossible — oh this is impossible.’ And then you just keep going and keep going and you sort of do the impossible.”
Thanks Mom, for doing the impossible. You made it look so easy. Thank you Dad, for perfecting my ponytail! Mom, you will forever be my hero, and if I can be half as inspiring, wonderful, creative, talented, strong, graceful, poised, hardworking, dedicated and beautiful as you are, I will be one lucky woman!
Happy Mother’s Day to all of you super moms out there doing the impossible every day!
